WE’RE LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING YOU
Welcome
Thank you for visiting this page, which gives more information about Autism Champions’ Power to Parent course.
What is Power to Parent?
Power to Parent is Autism Champions’ six session parenting course. At Autism Champions we see autism as just another way of being human.
Power to Parent focuses not only on the child, but on all those around them. We believe that meeting your own needs as a parent is paramount and must take centre stage if you are to be the parent you want to be. You can hear more about Power to Parent in the videos from our trainers below. You can also read more about the course here, and if you scroll to the bottom of the page you can read what other parents think about the course.
Hello From Your Trainer
A letter was sent to you in the post with information about your place on the course. The letter will confirm who you trainer is. Please watch the video from your trainer.

Virtual Course Attendees:
We know that joining a virtual call can be stressful. Will the technology work when you need it to?! We have definitely been there. You will receive the Teams link to your session the day before the first session, so it’s easy to find in your inbox.
If you want to join the session on a computer and don’t have a Teams account then follow these instructions. Use a Chrome browser when following these instructions.
If you want to join the session on a phone and don’t have a Teams account then follow these instructions.
Each week the Team link will be the same. We advise trying to join the call the day before. That way you will know if it will work when it comes to the real time. If you are struggling or can’t make it make then please contact Leanne on 07810 205646.
Course Worksheets
These worksheets will be emailed to you soon after each session. But you can find them here too, if needed. We know it can be tempting, but please don’t jump ahead with the worksheets!
Click on the link below and the worksheet will download onto your device.
Week 1 - The Fizzy Scale worksheet
Week 2 - Polyvagal Theory worksheet

FAQ
-
Please contact Leanne at enquiries@autismchampions.co.uk or on 07810 205646 and she will see if that is possible.
-
Yes, it will be emailed to you.
-
Please contact Leanne at enquiries@autismchampions.co.uk or on 07810 205646 and she will be able to let your trainer/s know.

Thanks for being honest. This is a normal feeling. What we would ask you to do is to think about how you can make yourself feel safe when the course starts? Would wearing your favourite jumper help? Can you buy yourself a special treat ahead of that first session?
Then take some time to think about why you are feeling anxious. Exploring this will help with the course.
-
We would suggest you use the same device if you can, as that reduces the number of screens everyone is looking at. Obviously for some people that will be tricky, they may not live together, in which case it’s absolutely fine to join separately.
-
When the time comes for your first session - click on the meeting link in the email you received.
If you are on a computer you will be taken to a page where you can choose to either join on the web or download the desktop app. If you already have the Teams app, the meeting will open there automatically. If you don’t have a Teams account you can join the meeting as a guest.
If you want to join on your phone, click on the meeting link. It will prompt you to download Teams app either for Andriod or iPhone, if you don’t already have the App. From there you can join the meeting.
If you do have a Teams account, select Sign in to join with access to the meeting chat and more.
If the meeting has yet to start, you will see a screen telling you will be able to join when the meeting starts.
We all know that technology can be stressful. Please feel free to click on the link the day before the meeting. You won’t be given access to the meeting then, but it should reassure you that when the meeting is happening you will be able to join. If you have any problems joining call 07810 205646 and we will help.
-
We know that for some people, it’s really distracting having their camera on during virtual calls.
If you find your camera distracting, then ideally we like you to leave it on while you introduce yourself to everyone. Once introductions have finished, please feel free to turn it off.
-
When you are introducing yourself to the group - we would ask that you have your microphone on.
Then it’s up to you. Some people find having to turn their microphone on and off disrupts their ability to fully participate in a session. Others are happy to turn it on when needed.
If you have background noise, we would ask that you keep your microphone off, until you want to say something.
-
No, you will be able to join them from a smart phone.
A few days before the first session, revisit this page, where you will find a link to your session and you can click on it from your phone and it will show you how to join the session when the real time comes.
If we haven’t answered your question above - please contact Leanne at enquiries@autismchampions.co.uk or on 07810 205646 (please leave a message if you need to) and she will be able to help.
