Neurodivergent Consultant
Autism Champions exists to help create a society that appreciates the needs of autistic people, enabling them to learn to live in ways authentic to their unique identities.

Duties
Deliver Autism Champions Power to Parent 6-week course to families with high needs face-to-face in their homes. Deliver the course to a small group of parents with another consultant virtually.
Work with parents to understand and support their children’s needs.
Support parents and children through the Alternative Provision delivered by Oxford City Council.
Work with neurodivergent children and young people to support them to thrive in this neurotypical world.
Understand the importance of self-reflexivity and use this skill when recording observations and reflections after each session.
Adhering to the Safeguarding processes.
To be willing to challenge their own thinking, conscious and unconscious biases, and that of the organisation, in a respectful and productive way.
Attend team meetings and supervision as required.
Support other colleagues as required.

Skills & Competencies
You are an expert in working with neurodivergent people. You will be able to demonstrate this expertise through experience.
You will see those you work with as the experts of their own experience. You will enable them to find solutions that work for them. These solutions might challenge existing thinking and systems.
You will be a skilled negotiator with other professionals. We get the best outcomes for the families we work with when all professionals involved with the family are on board with our approach.
Our approach may challenge the status quo for that child.
You are empathetic, warm, and can establish ongoing supportive relationships with a diverse population.
You are skilled in recording articulate concepts and ideas in notes and reports.
You will be skilled at enabling other professionals to work with the child in the way you suggest.
You are a team player, happy to support colleagues in a way that works for you and them.
You have clear boundaries and are happy to say no to those you work with and also colleagues.
You will represent Autism Champions with integrity and honesty.
Salary
Hourly rate is £35 per hour during the 6-month probation period, during which induction and training will take place. Live supervision will also be provided. This hourly rate will increase to £40 following successful completion of the probation period.
This is a freelance position. Hours will fluctuate from month to month and no hours are guaranteed. This is an ideal role to fit in alongside other work you may have.

Many of our team of consultants identify as neurodivergent. Each team member possesses skills in specific areas. We make adjustments to ensure our team are enabled by their environment, thus ensuring they can be their best selves. Exceptional communication skills vary from person to person, from role to role. They can also vary in terms of medium (e.g., virtual, face-to-face, group sessions, and 1:1) and can be impacted by the environment. Application Process
Step 1: We invite applicants to send their CV and a video or covering letter explaining why you’d like to work for Autism Champions specifically and what is it about the way we work that appeals to you to enquires@autismchampions.co.uk
Step 2: Interview with Autism Champions.
Step 3: Create and submit a 15 minute video on a topic relevant to Autism Champions’ work and scope (i.e. EOTAS, Alternative Provision, Neurodivergence, Autistic Identity, etc.)
Step 4: DBS and reference checking.
Additional Information
Autism Champions doesn’t have an office, we work virtually from home or with clients at their home, schools, etc.
We have virtual monthly team meetings and supervision which you will join. Once you are working 15 hours per month, we can pay you your standard hourly rate for that time.
After each consultation with a family or young person we ask that you type up a short reflection on what was covered and anything else of relevant. We don’t pay for the time spent writing these reflections.
You will need your own computer from which to join calls virtually.
You will need your own car and be able to drive.
Specialist Children and Young People Neurodivergent Consultant
Duties
Work directly with children and young people, in a neurodivergent affirming way, within educational establishments and in their home environment.
Support children through the Alternative Provision delivered by Oxford City Council.
Supporting children and young people to build an awareness of their own unique identity and support them to advocate for their needs in relation to living and learning. This will support them to thrive in this neurotypical world.
