Alternative Provision

What we do

Whether you want to ensure your organisation provides accessible, autistic and neurodivergent affirming education/services to CYP (Children & Young People) and their families, or are looking for wider autism strategy development, our team can work with you to ensure you achieve your aims. We offer tailored consultancy to schools and are proud to be a part of Alternative Provision in Oxfordshire.

Alternative Provision (AP) is typically commissioned when a child or young person is finding it challenging to engage with mainstream education. Provision may take place within school as additional support, or be delivered at home or in the community. AP is highly personalised, designed to meet the individual needs of the child or young person, and is underpinned by a therapeutic, trauma-informed approach.

Alternative Provision with Autism Champions

Why choose us?

Autism Champions differs from many other AP providers in that we work with the child within the context of their family and the wider system around them. This includes close collaboration with schools and other professionals involved in supporting the child and their family, ensuring a more holistic and joined-up approach.

We lead with curiosity, asking thoughtful questions to better understand the systems and structures around each child. When something doesn’t seem to be working, we explore it openly and constructively. We embrace expansive, big-picture thinking and intentionally bring people together to build a cohesive, collaborative team that supports each child’s growth and success. We champion big-sky thinking and work tirelessly to build a cohesive, collaborative team around each child.

Many of our mentors are neurodivergent themselves, or have parented or worked with neurodivergent children, giving us first-hand experience of what it means to navigate the world as a neurodivergent person or family. We intentionally draw on this lived experience in the way we work, creating deep empathy and authentic understanding with those we support. This approach has led to meaningful and lasting successes for the children, young people, and families we work alongside.

How to Get Started

We are proud to be on the Oxfordshire County Council’s Alternative Provision Approved Provider open framework.

Our approach to engaging with the child or young person and their family will be informed by what we learn in the initial assessment stage.  For details on the approved provider list, please follow the link:

To begin a referral, ask your school to complete our referral form.

What to Expect

Step 1

Once the referral is made and the support is confirmed by the school, we’'ll be in touch to schedule an initial virtual meeting with one of our specialist mentors.

Step 2

After a virtual meeting, we’ll conduct a low pressure home visit for us to meet the child and family/ carers.

Step 3

Your specialist mentor will work together with any other professionals involved (i.e. Occupational Therapists, SENCO, Social Worker, etc.) to ensure our work is holistic and incorporates the systems and environments around the child.
